Cats Love Writers

My cat is endlessly interested in what I’m writing. He looks over my shoulder from his cat tree when I’m sitting on the livingroom sofa. He nonchalantly walks on my laptop keyboard, trying to appear like he just wants to get to the other side of the couch. He burrows under my elbow to stick his head through and snuggle, while peeking at the words on the screen.

I saw this picture of a manuscript from 1445 and realized that this author also had an inquisitive cat—that cats really haven’t changed all that much in 568 years. They’re still curious. They still want to somehow be a part of whatever your pen is putting to paper (or fingers are typing into laptop). They still want to have a little of that scholarly focus to be turned to them.

But I can’t think of a better way to write than to have my legs propped up, laptop on my thighs, and my cat dozing against me.
