Editing…Editing…

In the giddiness that accompanies a new book contract, I always forget about the two elephantine tasks that await:

  1. Editing
  2. Marketing

I’m in the throes of my first formal editing pass for the publisher of my novel, The Klockwerk Kraken.

So far I’ve found:

  • missing descriptors
  • purple prose
  • missing emotions
  • bad word choices
  • missing words in the middle of sentences (the horror!)
  • run-on sentences
  • independently moving body parts (shudder)
  • sentences that have no meaning at all
  • verb tense disagreements
This pass makes me soooo glad my editor at MLR Press saw something in this story worth keeping. I just need to finish up with the red pen (or really, the red track changes) and get it back to her.
The story is still evolving–keep a look out for more updates before publication.
And be prepared for the onslaught of Marketing when it arrives!  ðŸ˜‰
